Literature Text

I’m not unique; you just didn’t know
That girls like me exist
I’m just like them; you just didn’t know
‘Cause you can’t see my scars

My disease is mental

I’m glad that you can’t read my mind
For what you’d find I’m sure
Would change the image you’ve
Decided to assign me in your head

My sickness battles with my mind

You cannot see the demons that
Attack my will to remain whole
You cannot hear the voices that
Attempt persuasion:
Just one cut, just one slash
Just one drop of red

They promise this will take away my pain

You look at me and see a girl
I look at my reflection and
Perfection seems within my grasp
If only:
Just one meal, just one day
Just one pound to lose

It promises to take away my pain

My sickness rages through my thoughts

I wish that you could read my mind
And tell me your thoughts on what
You find and how it fails to coincide
With the image you’ve assigned me

My disease is mental

You can’t see my scars, but I’m just like her
The girl at whom you’re staring
I’m not unique; you’d just rather forget
That girls like us exist
To begin with, I've filed this under sociopolitical because I believe that mental self-injury and mental eating disorders are struggles for many; as well, I believe they are struggles that very few people in society realise or acknowledge.

It began as a poem, and the photomanip is simply a visual representation of that poem. Now I look at it again, I realise that it (the manip) is really just a scrap and in sore need of editing, but I haven't got the programme to do that on this computer (I'm in an internet cafe). It's really all about the poem anyway.
